What is done in Lasik Treatment?

A motorized blade is used to create a flap of the first two layers of the cornea and a computer-controlled laser is used to reshape the inner layers. The surgeon begins with a mechanical surgical tool called a microkeratome or a femtosecond laser to create a thin, circular "flap" in the cornea. Then the underlying cornea is accessed and corneal tissue is removed using an excimer laser. Then the cornea is reshaped so that the light is focused in a better way for proper vision using a UV light beam to remove the microscopic amounts of tissue.
